Friends of Schumacher Farm’s receives $25,000 Grant
The Madison Community Foundation (MCF) recently awarded $25,000 towards the Friends of Schumacher Farm’s capital campaign to complete the Center for Rural History (the "Center"). The Center will be located on the ground floor of the large red barn on the Schumacher Farm Park property, which is part of the Dane County Parks system. The ongoing campaign has now raised almost $325,000 of private funds for this major project. Dane County has also committed $400,000 to finish the Center and to complete significant site work, such as a paved driveway and parking and several water retention areas.
Rosa Ropers, Friends President, expressed her appreciation of this grant by stating “The Friends of Schumacher Farm are very honored and appreciative of this generous donation from the Madison Community Foundation. The grant helps ensure that the Center for Rural History will become a reality. MCF is a tremendous asset for the Madison area community; and we are so very pleased to have the Center for Rural History recognized as a worthwhile project highly valued by the Madison Community Foundation.”
“We’re thrilled to be part of preserving and expanding a living history museum and nature conservancy for Dane County residents and visitors alike,” said MCF President Bob Sorge. “Schumacher Farm Park is a unique cultural asset that will provide a rich array of opportunities for nature education, recreation, community events and so much more.”
The Madison Community Foundation uses its local knowledge and assets to inspire giving, support meaningful initiatives, and connect people for the common good. MCF’s Community Impact grantmaking program invests over $1.5 million each year in the arts, education, community development, environment, non-profit capacity, children and seniors.
